Capturing error details and exceptions is critical to the diagnosis of runtime errors. Without specific details, developers are left to guess and take shots in the dark about the potential problems leaving customers with a sour experience. It’s surprising how many developers creating commercial grade software simply do not know how to capture exception details from an application. This article will cover some general techniques that apply to all software – and some that apply to the tools available with DeployLX.More...

With all the talk in the media about the government stimulus bill and corporate bailouts! It’s hard to imagine these giant companies and their businesses have come to this point where the U.S. government needs to step in and bailout large corporations. As Software Developers/ISVs in the SMB market and some who work with large corporate clients have noticed a drop-off in projects or sales revenue. As Software Developers, it’s in our DNA to continue to develop, innovate, and create unique software applications for our clients that specifically address both their business needs to automate business processes and improve overall efficiencies for how they do business.

As part of our migration to TeamCity and our Continuous Integration efforts we’ve integrated our xUnit.net tests into the build and test process. One of the primary limitations I’ve found with xUnit is the inability to batch tests outside of the IDE. During development it’s easy to run only a specific set of tests ala R#. However as part of the build process don’t have that luxury.

I feel it is best to allow for extensions and not use it, then to need it and not have it. Here's my thought.

It's become almost impossible to turn on the TV or listen to the radio without hearing something negative about the economy. If you are a principle of a business or an executive in a corporation, you may end up in the role responsible for cutting company costs. A natural response to a slowing economy is cutting back on the marketing activities, but tightening the belt a few notches can have it’s consequences too. In fact, if your competitor should happen to adopt such a tactic, he would actually be making a very good choice – for you. More...

Customer feedback has always been an important part of the XHEO development process. Many of our most popular features started as requests from existing customers to enhance or modify existing features. Traditionally this has been an ad-hoc process. As customers submit suggestions or complaints the information is logged into a simple database. Later when the next feature release is planned we review the database and select a few ideas to implement.

This has been effective in a limited sense but has also neglected the important feedback loop with the users during the course of design. To help improve this feedback cycle we’ve created a UserVoice account to let users provide feedback and ideas for our products.

You can find our feedback forum at xheo.uservoice.com or just click the feedback tab on this page.

Licensing is the first and last thing your customers will see. So deciding how your license scheme is going to flow is important. Do you let your customer install the product completely? Or do you check the license prior to installation begins? Both are valid scenarios, and have their own place in business.

Recently Ayende took us to task on his blog about frustrations with support for one of our products. I'm actually quite surprised that someone with such a good reputation and vocal about transparency would censor the actual communications in order to portray XHEO in a way that is inconsistent with the truth. I've thought about how to respond for a few days to make sure the initial emotion of being blasted so wrongfully doesn't color my representation of the truth.
